Focus crimes drop 46%

Major crime in Metro Manila dropped 46 percent over the past month compared to the same period last year, police officials reported Friday, though murder cases recorded a slight increase.

Data from the National Capital Region Police Office showed that incidents involving eight focus crimes fell to 368 cases between 23 August and 23 September, down from 683 cases recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

The focus crimes tracked by law enforcement include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, motor vehicle theft and motorcycle theft.

Theft recorded the largest volume reduction, dropping from 321 to 171 cases. Motorcycle theft plunged 63 percent from 70 to 26 cases, while physical injury reports fell 56 percent from 62 to 27 cases.

Rape cases declined 40 percent from 104 to 62, and robbery cases dropped 36 percent from 84 to 54. Homicides decreased 47 percent from 15 to eight. No automobile thefts were reported during the 30-day window, compared to 11 recorded during the same period last year.
