Tarlac City gains new waterfront park

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has opened the Paraiso Linear Park as part of its ongoing Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program, which targets the cleanup of Ungot Creek and its surrounding areas.

Environmental officials inaugurated the newly completed public space in Barangay Paraiso in Tarlac City this September to promote waterway restoration and provide residents with accessible recreational facilities.

The park features shaded pergolas, trellises, pavilions, picnic tables, playground equipment, outdoor gym facilities, benches, and footbridges designed to encourage physical activity, relaxation, and neighborhood gatherings.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, DENR regional executive director Ralph Pablo urged community members and local stakeholders to take responsibility for maintaining the park and keeping the adjacent creek clean.

“Collective action is vital in keeping our waterways clean and ensuring that the benefits of rehabilitation are sustained for the communities that depend on them,” Pablo said.

He cited that the project demonstrates how environmental restoration can work alongside community-focused developments to inspire local stewardship.

The initiative aligns with the agency’s broader Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program, which partners with local governments to improve water quality and protect river systems across the region.

Key officials attending the event included DENR Provincial Head Jowell Dellosa, Capas Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Isagani Manalili, and Camiling Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Amalia Fajardo, along with representatives from regional and provincial DENR offices.
