PBBM meets BARMM head after historic first parliamentary vote

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua at Malacañang to discuss regional stability following the completion of the region’s first parliamentary elections.

Marcos and Macacua, who also chairs the Bangsamoro Federalist Party, discussed development initiatives, public service delivery, and the continuation of the peace process’s normalization track across the region.

Marcos congratulated Macacua on the successful conduct of the landmark elections, which recorded an 84.34 percent voter turnout with more than 2 million votes cast, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Official results showed the Bangsamoro Federalist Party leading with 16 party seats, followed by the United Bangsamoro Justice Party with 15 seats and the BARMM Grand Coalition with eight seats.

The remaining seats were allocated to smaller regional parties and district representatives.

The elections mark the conclusion of the political track of the Bangsamoro peace process, transitioning the region from an interim administration to a fully elected parliamentary government.

The 80 newly elected members of the Bangsamoro Parliament will officially take office on 30 October when they will form the new government and select the region’s chief minister.
