Guards foil attempt to sneak shabu into Leyte provincial jail

PALO, Leyte — Jail guards at the Leyte Provincial Jail foiled an attempt to bring suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia into the facility after the items were allegedly concealed inside a sanitary napkin on 23 September.

Police identified the suspect only as alias “Rara,” 40, a resident of Catarman, Northern Samar.

She was arrested during routine frisking as she was about to enter the jail compound in Purok 1, Sitio Kauswagan, Barangay Barayong, Palo.

The Palo Municipal Police Station said it received a report from the jail warden about the discovery and sent personnel to arrest the suspect.

Authorities seized one sachet of suspected shabu, two strips of aluminum foil containing suspected shabu, one transparent plastic ziplock container and one sanitary napkin.

The suspected illegal drugs weighed about 1.8 grams and had an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P12,240.

The suspect and non-drug evidence were brought to the Palo Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition, while the suspected shabu was submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit 8 for qualitative and quantitative examination.

Palo police chief Lt. Col. Florando Relente said charges for illegal possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia would be filed against the suspect.
