Condo manager wounded in daylight ambush

A condominium manager was wounded Thursday morning after motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed her vehicle along a busy thoroughfare in Makati City, prompting police to launch a manhunt for the assailants.

The victim, identified by police as Ruby Jeanne Carlos of Taguig City, was driving her white Nissan Terrano SUV alone along Chino Roces Avenue in Barangay Pio del Pilar around 7 a.m. when the attack occurred.

Witnesses reported that two suspects aboard a motorcycle — wearing uniforms of the ride-hailing company Move It — approached the driver’s side and opened fire, striking Carlos in the leg and thigh before fleeing the scene.

A responding ambulance from Barangay Pio del Pilar rushed Carlos to Makati Medical Center for emergency treatment. Authorities have not disclosed her current condition.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Police Brig. Gen. Rodel Pastor confirmed that one of the injured individuals associated with the incident was a suspect, though police have yet to clarify how that person was wounded.

The morning attack shattered the driver’s side window of the SUV and caused heavy traffic delays along Chino Roces Avenue as investigators cordoned off the scene near the Oriental Place residential building.

Police investigators said they are examining work-related motives as part of an ongoing case buildup to identify the perpetrators.
