Capiz barangay captain nabbed with 3 loose firearms

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Thursday said police arrested an incumbent barangay captain and seized three loose firearms during a law enforcement operation in Pontevedra, Capiz, on 22 September 2026.

The operation was carried out by the CIDG Capiz Provincial Field Unit in coordination with the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Team of Capiz–Regional Intelligence Unit 6 and Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Capiz Police Provincial Office through the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The suspect, who was the subject of the search warrant, was apprehended after authorities found him in possession and control of three unregistered firearms: one .45-caliber pistol, one .38-caliber revolver and one 12-gauge homemade shotgun, along with magazines and live ammunition. He failed to present the required registration documents for the firearms.

The arrested suspect will face charges before the National Prosecution Service for violation of Section 28 of Republic Act No. 10591, covering the unlawful acquisition or possession of firearms and ammunition.

“Law enforcement operations must be carried out with firm adherence to the law and respect for due process. We will hold accountable those who unlawfully possess firearms, regardless of position or status,” Nartatez Jr. said.

“Walang sinuman ang dapat magmay-ari ng baril nang walang kaukulang pahintulot at dokumento. Mahigpit nating ipatutupad ang batas upang mapanatili ang seguridad ng ating mga komunidad,” he added.

The operation, according to Nartatez, also reflects the PNP Focused Agenda, a framework for strengthening police service, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations anchored on lawful, disciplined and accountable enforcement.
