Two active cops arrested over CDO shooting

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Two active police officers were arrested after they were allegedly involved in the shooting of a man in Barangay Indahag late Monday night, the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office said.

City police director Col. Dexter Paje said authorities responded after a concerned citizen reported gunfire at Sitio Lumboy.

Responding personnel found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. Bystanders assisted the victim before he was taken by barangay ambulance to Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

Police immediately issued a citywide flash alarm after receiving information on the shooting.

Personnel stationed at the Indahag Border Control Point later intercepted a gray Yamaha Sniper motorcycle matching the description of the suspected getaway vehicle.

Upon verification, police identified the two riders as active Philippine National Police personnel assigned to the same border control post.

The officers were taken into custody, while their issued service firearms were confiscated for examination.

A witness also positively identified one of the apprehended officers as the alleged shooter, according to police. Investigators recovered a fired cartridge case from the scene.

The two officers are being held at the Maharlika Detention Facility while criminal and administrative complaints are being prepared against them.

The COCPO said investigative and legal procedures are ongoing and assured the public that those found responsible would be held accountable.

The arrests were also confirmed in a separate report Tuesday, which said the two officers were intercepted by fellow policemen shortly after the shooting.
