NCRPO chief pushes early campus bullying intervention

Capital region police urged students and parents Tuesday to report safety concerns, bullying, and threats to authorities, citing recent student-related tragedies across the country.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) officer-in-charge Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano called for earlier intervention and tighter coordination among families, schools, and law enforcement following reports of student safety incidents in Tacloban City, Zamboanga City, and South Cotabato.

“To our students, please know that you do not have to face your problems alone,” Abrahano said.

“If you feel that you are in trouble, if someone is threatening or hurting you, or if you are concerned about the safety of a friend or classmate, please tell your parents, teachers, school authorities, or approach the police,” he added.

Abrahano assured parents that the police force remains committed to protecting learners across Metro Manila by coordinating with school officials, documenting reports, and directing families to child protection or mental health agencies when appropriate.

The NCRPO chief stressed that mental health concerns require compassionate care from qualified health professionals rather than immediate criminalization.

To expand support services for student welfare, police officials are evaluating new campus security mechanisms, including the installation of dedicated anti-bullying help desks in public schools.
