Moira finds funny side of heartbreak

Heartbreak has long been Moira dela Torre’s trademark, but this time she’s proving there’s room for laughter, too.

The singer-songwriter teams up with OPM rock icons Parokya ni Edgar for “San Ka Na,” a collaboration that pairs emotional longing with playful storytelling. Released on 16 September, the music video trades the usual tearjerker treatment for quirky visuals, surprise cameos and moments of comedy without losing sight of the song’s emotional core.

The collaboration came together unexpectedly. Moira recalled hanging out and jamming with Parokya frontman Chito Miranda while working on another song before shifting their attention to “San Ka Na.”

“We were working on a different song,” she shared. “Eventually, we tried ‘San Ka Na,’ and Chito liked it more.” Miranda later wrote his own verse, while the rest of Parokya ni Edgar helped shape the track with the band’s signature sound.

The music video also took an unexpected turn. Initially envisioned as a more serious narrative, the concept evolved after production challenges encouraged the team to embrace a lighter, more imaginative direction.

Adding to the fun are surprise appearances by Mimiyuuuh and Janine Berdin. Mimiyuuuh pops up during a laundry scene, while Berdin makes an unexpected appearance in a bathroom sequence. Though comedic on the surface, Moira said the scenes subtly explore themes of boundaries, avoidance and how people sometimes cope with difficult emotions through humor.

Ultimately, Moira hopes audiences will simply enjoy the experience and interpret it in their own way.

“I just hope they make it their own. Sana lang magustuhan nila… Sana ma-enjoy nila (I just hope they like it… I hope they enjoy it),” she said.
