Man arrested, ammunition seized in Candon City

Police arrested a 49-year-old construction worker during the implementation of a search warrant for alleged violation of the country’s firearms law in Candon City, Ilocos Sur on September 21.

The operation was conducted at around 9:58 a.m. by personnel of the Candon City Police Station, Provincial Intelligence Team of Ilocos Sur and Regional Intelligence Unit 1.

Police implemented Search Warrant No. 07-2026, issued by the Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region, Branch 71 in Candon City, against the 49-year-old married man who is a resident of the city.

The operation resulted in the suspect’s arrest and the confiscation of a black-and-brown clutch bag, a caliber .45 magazine and several rounds of ammunition.

Authorities also recovered three live or unfired caliber .45 rounds, a dud or misfire bullet, another live caliber .45 round, 10 spent caliber .45 shells, one live or unfired caliber .22 round and seven spent caliber .45 bullets.

Police said the inventory and marking of the seized items were conducted on-site in the presence of the mandatory witnesses and the suspect, in accordance with law.

The suspect is expected to face charges for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
