Anisimova pulls out of Singapore Open

SINGAPORE – World No. 11 Amanda Anisimova joined the growing list of casualties as she pulled out of the WTA 500 Singapore Tennis Open due to left wrist injury.

The second-seeded American made her decision to withdraw on Tuesday, a one day before facing Talia Gibson in the Round of 16 of the women’s singles event main draw.

She was replaced by lucky loser Vicktoria Morvayova of Slovakia, who lost her qualifying match to Joana Garland of Taiwan on Sunday.

Anisimova is the biggest threat on Alex’s Eala’s path to her second WTA 500 title.

She beat Eala in the Round of 32 of the Cincinnati Open and expressed her willingness to duplicate that feat when she showed up in the Players’ Welcome Party ahead of this prestigious WTA event on Sunday.

But injury stopped her cold, reducing her into a mere spectator together with other prominent players like Janice Tjen, Diana Shcnaider, Sorana Cirstea and world No. 3 jessica Pegula, who was supposed to play as the top seed before declaring herself unavailable to compete at a high level.

Still, Eala's path to glory is littered with landmines.

She still has to be at her best as she battles French Open finalist Maja Chwalinska, 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez and reigning champion Elise Mertens.
