Targeted threat assessments for NCR schools sought

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) expressed full support Monday for the creation of a Joint School Safety Task Force tasked with conducting site-specific security audits of public schools nationwide.

NCRPO officer-in-charge Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano stressed that the necessity of localized security and threat assessments, noting that educational institutions face distinct physical environments and vulnerabilities.

"We support the conduct of localized and site-specific security assessments of schools in the National Capital Region," Abrahano said.

"Each school has its own circumstances, and our security measures must be responsive to the actual conditions on the ground," he added.

Abrahano stated he will instruct Metro Manila police district commanders to work alongside the Department of Education-National Capital Region, school administrators, and local government units to evaluate safety protocols and address security gaps.

Under the planned directive, police units will execute school-specific threat evaluations, boost officer visibility during peak hours, review emergency rapid-response protocols, set up direct communication links with campus administrators, and document best practices for wider deployment across the metropolis.

"We want every assessment to answer a simple question: What does this particular school need to become safer, and what can the police and our partner agencies do about it?" Abrahano said.

"The safety of our students is a shared responsibility," he added.
