NPC reports LTFRB online system data breach
Privacy officials said an investigation remains active to determine whether sensitive personal data was compromised in the incident.
A data breach compromised the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Electronic Support System, taking the online records platform offline, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) revealed Monday.
The privacy watchdog said in an advisory that the breach occurred 13 September but was only confirmed Monday following initial technical assessments.
“The incident generally affected the LESS data environment; however, the specific data involved and the full extent of the impact remain subject to technical validation,” the NPC said.
As a precautionary measure, officials temporarily shut down the system, suspending all related services and online transactions until further notice.
The LTFRB said it is collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and the NPC to investigate the intrusion and safely restore system operations.
“The LTFRB assures the public that the situation is being addressed with utmost urgency and that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard the LESS and the information entrusted to the agency,” the transport board said in a statement, apologizing for the service disruption.
