Lanao Sur logs zero violence during BARMM polls

LANAO DEL SUR — The Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division formally deactivated its provisional battalions Sunday following the conclusion of their security mission in Lanao del Sur, which recorded zero violent incidents during the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections last 14 September.

Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., commander of the 1st Infantry Division, welcomed the returning troops during a ceremony at division headquarters in Labangon, Zamboanga del Sur, and awarded commendations to personnel for their service.

The provisional battalions were deployed as reinforcement forces alongside other units from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police and the Commission on Elections to secure polling areas across Lanao del Sur.

“With the election mission successfully accomplished, peaceful conditions were sustained and conditions were set for strong deterrence against potential post-election threats,” Barroquillo said.

Military officials highlighted the participation of former Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces combatants in the electoral process, describing it as a key milestone in transitioning from armed conflict to democratic political engagement.

Following the deactivation, the provisional units were dissolved and personnel returned to their original organic assignments.
