‘Coven Academy’ brings magic, romance and mayhem

Forget ordinary high school drama. Coven Academy is taking teenage chaos into supernatural territory.

Disney+ Philippines has dropped the official trailer for its upcoming teen series, giving viewers a first look at a mysterious boarding school where young witches, warlocks and other supernatural students are learning that growing up can be dangerous enough without having magical powers.

Set in New Orleans, the series centers on Briar (Malina Weissman), a fiercely independent teenager whose life takes an unexpected turn after discovering that she is a witch. Her arrival at the elite academy quickly pulls her into a world filled with secret rivalries, dangerous magic and complicated feelings.

Things get even messier when Briar finds herself caught between Jake (Malachi Barton), a charismatic warlock with a darker side, and Ollie (Louis Thresher), a newly turned vampire. The trailer hints that romance may be just as unpredictable as the supernatural forces surrounding them.

The story expands beyond Briar's love life. Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, a student with the ability to read minds, while Ora Duplass portrays Tegan, a witch whose powers involve manipulating time. At the center of the academy is Miss Graves (Tiffani Thiessen), its glamorous but formidable headmistress. Devon Sawa also appears as Mr. Cole, a charismatic warlock professor.

The trailer, soundtracked by Olivia Rodrigo's “Brutal,” leans into the show's mix of youthful rebellion, supernatural danger and messy relationships. Behind the spells and mysterious school corridors, however, the students are facing a much bigger problem: an ancient supernatural conflict that could put New Orleans in danger.

Created by Tim Federle, the series brings together elements of teen romance, fantasy and mystery. Federle executive produces alongside Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Amanda Row and Bronwyn North-Reist.

Coven Academy premieres 2 October on Disney+ Philippines, with the entire season available to stream.
