Siyensikat features science-based interventions
The ninth season of Siyensikat: Pinoy Popular Science, the Department of Science and Technology’s show on GTV channel, is back airing DoST’s community interventions last 19 September.
The 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. program hosted by Jiego Reyes and DoST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. features some of DoST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) projects, like the gravity-type water system of a mountain community.
Barangay Bunawan in Godod, Zamboanga del Norte used to fetch water from a spring located higher in the mountain.
To ease the burden of the indigenous Subanen residents in accessing water in Sitio Makinaryas, DoST helped build taps near homes down the slopes and connect these to the spring through pipes. Gravity does the rest with the water naturally flowing down to a collection site in the lower grounds through the pipe.
The return episodes of Siyensikat also features other CEST projects such as a digital and offline library in Tanay, Rizal; early warning system in Iloilo; and mussel and oyster cultivation in Capiz.
