ASIAD: ‘Go lang nang go!’

Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, traveled to Nagoya, Japan, on 16 September to support Filipino athletes competing in the 2026 Asian Games.

Go met Filipino athletes, tourists and overseas Filipinos during his flight to Japan before checking on members of Team Philippines upon arrival.

“The Asian Games is one of the biggest sporting events in the world and forms part of the Olympic movement. Our athletes compete in these Games not merely as individuals, but as representatives of their respective countries,” he said.

Go watched an Alas Pilipinas Women’s volleyball match and supported Gilas Pilipinas Women in their game against Kazakhstan. The following day, he watched the Philippine men’s football match against Vietnam.

“As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, it is my duty to support and check on our athletes. Support is not needed only during competitions — it is also important for them to feel that the entire Philippines is behind them,” Go said.

“Go lang nang Go! Fight for the Philippines. Whatever the result, we salute your sacrifice, dedication and courage in representing our country,” he added.

Go cited Republic Act 11470, which established the National Academy of Sports, as well as Senate measures seeking regional NAS campuses, the institutionalization of the Philippine National Games and the establishment of the National Tertiary Games.

He also highlighted Senate Bill 1743, which seeks stronger incentives for para-athletest.
