Marilao school gets first computer lab from JRT Foundation
The equipment supports both HHIS students and teachers’ development by improving their digital skills.
Heritage Homes Integrated School (HHIS) used to be the only public high school in Marilao, Bulacan without a computer laboratory.
Students relied largely on laptops donated by the Department of Education (DepEd) years ago. Of the 45 laptops previously provided, only 20 remained functional, according to HHIS principal Dr. Nica Mae Magisa.
With scarce equipment, several students resorted to using their mobile phones for schoolwork instead.
“I learned that its senior high school students graduate without experience in computer because they don’t have equipment,” Dr. Charies N. dela Peña, regional education program specialist and head of regional delivery unit of DepEd Region III, added.
Today, HHIS has its own computer laboratory after becoming the first recipient of 20 computer sets donated by the JRT Foundation, the charitable arm of refrigeration company Coolaire Consolidated Inc.
The computers form part of the foundation’s donation called Jerry R. Tugade Technology Hub, in honor of the former Coolaire president. The equipment supports both HHIS students and teachers’ development by improving their digital skills.
“This partnership with DepEd provides us with an opportunity to make a more impactful and meaningful influence in the lives of students and teachers in advancing their skills. It is our hope that we join hands in building a future where no one is left behind,” Joel Ryan, vice chairman of the JRT Foundation and president of Coolaire, said.
The Foundation supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and has many robust projects for education, including scholarship and workshops on health and values formation.
