Remains of 2 seafarers from MT Sidr repatriated

In coordination with the DMW, licensed manning agencies and other partner agencies, OWWA will continue to facilitate the dignified return of the remains and provide assistance and support to the bereaved families.

The remains of two Filipino seafarers who died in an incident involving the MT Sidr in the Strait of Hormuz were repatriated to the Philippines on Friday night, 11 September.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) received and assisted in the repatriation of the remains upon their arrival.

OWWA administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan personally joined the reception and turnover, expressing solidarity and condolences to the bereaved families.

One of the seafarers will be brought to his family in Laguna, while the other will be transported to Cebu for his final resting place.

In coordination with the DMW, licensed manning agencies and other partner agencies, OWWA will continue to facilitate the dignified return of the remains and provide assistance and support to the bereaved families.

OWWA said its assistance will continue after the seafarers’ return home. Through its regional welfare offices, the agency will coordinate with the families to provide appropriate welfare assistance and other services based on their needs.
