Where are they now? Officials and personalities facing cases, probes
Several high-profile politicians, contractors and other personalities have found themselves facing criminal charges or government investigations, with some detained in the Philippines and others currently abroad.
As the cases develop, their whereabouts have also drawn public attention. Here is where some of the most prominent names stand as of 10 September 2026.
Senators Alan Peter is currently out of the Philippines after leaving the country on 9 September.
The Bureau of Immigration confirmed Thursday that the siblings had departed but said it could not disclose details of their itinerary, citing the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The agency also said there were no hold-departure orders or derogatory records against them at the time of their departure that would have legally prevented them from leaving.
Alan Peter was spotted at Ninoy Aquino International Airport before boarding a Singapore-bound flight on Wednesday night.
His departure came amid an ongoing investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Ombudsman into alleged irregularities surrounding the Philippines' hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, when Cayetano served as chair of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.
Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste remains abroad after leaving the Philippines on 2 August.
The NBI said on 9 September that its latest information placed Leviste in France after he had previously traveled to Switzerland. The agency is seeking a lookout bulletin order against him in connection with an alleged scheme to frame Executive Secretary Ralph Recto. Qualified human trafficking charges were filed against Leviste and other respondents on 4 September.
Leviste is also under preliminary investigation by the Ombudsman, together with his mother, Sen. Loren Legarda, over alleged anomalies involving more than P10 billion in solar energy projects. The Ombudsman has described the two as among the “big fish” still being investigated.
The Department of Energy also filed a supplemental complaint on 9 September in an estafa case against Leviste and two Solar Para sa Bayan Corp. officials.
Sen. Loren Legarda also remains abroad after leaving the Philippines on 2 August.
Legarda has said she is on medical leave, while the Ombudsman continues its preliminary investigation into alleged anomalies involving solar energy projects connected to her son.
The Ombudsman has questioned the continued absence of Legarda and Leviste amid the investigation, although Legarda's colleagues have said she is undergoing treatment for a serious illness.
Her case remains at the investigation stage, and she has not been convicted of any offense.
Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is no longer abroad.
The Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for his arrest on 7 September after finding probable cause in the P7.4-billion plunder case filed by the Ombudsman against him, former lawmaker Zaldy Co and two other respondents.
Romualdez was arrested the same day but was subsequently confined at Cardinal Santos Medical Center because of health concerns.
On 10 September, the Sandiganbayan issued a commitment order directing his detention at the New Quezon City Jail. He remains under medical care while his legal team seeks continued hospital confinement.
Zaldy Co: Still abroad
Former Ako Bicol party-list representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co remains outside the Philippines.
Co is facing the same P7.4-billion plunder case as Romualdez. The Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant and hold-departure order against him on 7 September.
Co has remained abroad since leaving the Philippines in 2025 and has been described by authorities as a fugitive. Philippine officials have continued efforts to locate him and pursue his return to the country.
Contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya is detained at the Bulacan Provincial Jail.
He was arrested in June after the PNP served a warrant issued by a Malolos court over alleged irregularities involving a flood control project in Bulacan. The case stemmed from allegations that a project worth about P53 million was paid for despite questions over its implementation.
Discaya had previously been held in Senate custody after being cited in contempt during the chamber's investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
Cezarah Rowena “Sarah” Discaya remains detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail Female Dormitory in Mactan, Cebu.
She faces non-bailable graft and malversation charges over an alleged P96.5-million ghost flood control project in Davao Occidental.
She is also among the respondents in a separate complaint involving alleged irregularities in a Bulacan flood control project.
The whereabouts and legal situations of the personalities vary.
Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano are currently abroad, with no reported legal restriction preventing their departure. Alan Peter remains under investigation over the 2019 SEA Games controversy, while Pia has not been identified as a respondent in that probe.
Leviste is in France and faces multiple investigations and complaints, while Legarda remains abroad on medical leave amid the Ombudsman probe involving alleged solar energy project anomalies.
Romualdez is in government custody after his arrest over the P7.4-billion plunder case. Co remains abroad with an arrest warrant against him.
The Discayas remain detained in Bulacan and Cebu, respectively, over separate cases involving alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
For now, the cases remain at different stages — from investigation to formal criminal proceedings and detention.
And as authorities continue to pursue the cases, one question remains relevant for the public: Where are they now, and what happens next?
