Subic Port ready for Luzon Economic Corridor - SBMA

Subic Bay Freeport – The Port of Subic Bay is ready to become the premier logistics and trade hub in Southeast Asia for business once the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) is in full swing.

This was the assurance made by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) during the LEC Investment Forum held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manila on 10 September 2026.

Speaking at the forum, SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Operations Ronnie Yambao said that port infrastructure projects in Subic Bay Freeport are designed to enhance operational efficiency, drive economic growth.

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño led the agency’s delegation, which included SBMA Director Yuri Allado, Yambao, Deputy Administrator for Operations Atty. Martin Kristoffer Roman, and Seaport Department Assistant General Manager Mike Lazaro.

Yambao shared a comprehensive report on the latest developments and future plans for port infrastructure, emphasizing the strategic initiatives undertaken by the SBMA.

“The SBMA is indeed privileged to be part of this undertaking which provides industry leaders and investors, a vital platform to discuss investment opportunities and infrastructure advancements within the region,” said Yambao.

Chairman Aliño said that the SBMA is committed to continuous modernization and innovation, supporting the Philippines' broader goals of trade expansion and investment attraction.

“By this we mean expanding port capacity, upgrading facilities, and adopting cutting-edge technologies to improve cargo handling processes. These initiatives are expected to bolster Subic Bay’s competitiveness and contribute significantly to regional development,” Aliño added.

Gracing the forum was His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who underscored the importance of the LEC in pump priming the development of high-technology industries, logistics, manufacturing, connectivity and supply chain.

The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) is a development initiative in the Philippines aimed at promoting economic growth and infrastructure development along key areas in Luzon. The initiative focuses on enhancing industrial, commercial, and agricultural zones to boost investment, job creation, and regional competitiveness.

Pioneered by three allied member states, the United States, Japan and the Philippines, the LEC membership has increased significantly into becoming a 12-member strong international economic corridor including Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, Spain and United Kingdom.
