Fajardo’s Hong Kong camp looks perfect

Miel Fajardo’s month-long training camp in Hong Kong will see him conduct his strength and conditioning the right way as his manager Lennon Tsoi has laid out an ideal setup.

“The weather condition and running track will be better here. We will try to bring in sparring partner for him as well,” Tsoi told DAILY TRIBUNE on Monday as he keenly awaits the formal announcement of Fajardo’s shot at the world crown.

“Last time I heard, the fight’s taking place on 26 November,” Tsoi said, noting that Tokyo should be the site of the scheduled 12-round International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title clash.

Masamichi Yabuki will have Fajardo as mandatory challenger following the Filipino’s  sensational first-round knockout victory in Argentina last April.

In that fight, Fajardo battered Argentine Tobias Reyes in their title elimination match held in a remote town in Santa Fe province.

Tsoi’s decision to send Fajardo with him to the former British crown colony was due to Metro Manila’s intense rains.

Fajardo has been unable to kickstart his strength and conditioning as it has been raining for the last four weeks.

The weather’s not about to improve until next month when the seasonal Habagat starts to weaken.

“Then by mid-October he’ll move back to Manila and continue his hard training there as there’s more sparring partners in Manila, the weather should be better at that time.”

Fajardo, hailing from San Francisco in Agusan del Sur, will be fighting for the world title for the first time.
