MDPPA to lead ASEAN motorcycle panel

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) has been elected to lead the ASEAN Automotive Federation’s Technical Committee for Motorcycle until March 2029.

The appointment took effect during a Federation of Asian Motorcycle Industries gathering in Boracay in March 2026. It places the Philippine motorcycle sector at the center of regional talks on common standards, regulations and environmental measures.

Alexander Cumpas of Kawasaki Motors Philippines Corp. will represent MDPPA as committee chairman. MDPPA Secretary General Gilmar de Castro will serve as secretariat.

Andrew Angeles of Honda Philippines Inc. and Joselito Ang of Suzuki Philippines Inc. also represent the association in the ASEAN Automotive Federation.

The committee speaks for the motorcycle industry across ASEAN member countries. It takes part in discussions with the ASEAN Automotive Product Working Group and the Private Public Forum.

Cumpas said motorcycle markets in the region face similar opportunities and concerns, especially in standardization and regulatory alignment.

He added that closer cooperation would allow member associations to share their experience and support the sector’s continued development.

Other members include motorcycle industry groups from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association provides guidance to the committee.

MDPPA represents Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha in the Philippines. Its work covers road safety, compliance, environmental protection and motorcycle technology.
