Ex-Capiz town councilor slapped with perpetual disqualification

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) perpetually barred a former municipal councilor in Capiz province from holding public office after she failed to submit her campaign expense reports for two consecutive elections.

Comelec on Friday ruled against former Dumarao Sangguniang Bayan member Maria Gemmarie Daquilanea for missing the filing deadlines for her Statements of Contributions and Expenditures in 2019 and 2022.

In addition to the perpetual disqualification, the commission ordered Daquilanea to pay administrative fines of P10,000 for her first offense and P20,000 for the second offense.

The poll body acted on a case filed by its Political Finance Department.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, all candidates must submit campaign finance disclosures within 30 days following an election.
