4ID troops march 12.7 km to honor Filipino heroes

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Troops of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) joined a 12.7-kilometer foot march in observance of National Heroes Day, paying tribute to the bravery, patriotism and sacrifices of Filipino heroes.

The march started at Camp Edilberto T. Evangelista in Barangay Patag and passed through Barangays Bulua, Canitoan and Iponan before returning to the 4ID headquarters.

Maj. Gen. Marion Angcao, 4ID commander, said the activity brought together Diamond troopers in a demonstration of physical endurance, discipline, teamwork and camaraderie.

“More than a physical fitness activity, the said march provided an opportunity for Diamond troopers to reflect on the meaning of heroism and the sacrifices made by those who fought and served for the country. It highlighted the enduring values of courage, selflessness, patriotism, and commitment—values that continue to guide the men and women of the Philippine Army in the performance of their duties,” Angcao said.

Angcao stressed that remembering the country’s heroes should go beyond commemorating their sacrifices, saying their legacy should be carried forward through service to the Filipino people.

He encouraged troops to draw inspiration from the courage and dedication of Filipino heroes and embody those values in their daily duties, particularly in serving communities and protecting the country.

“The strength of a soldier is not measured solely by physical endurance but also by the willingness to sacrifice, remain disciplined, and faithfully fulfill one’s responsibilities,” Angcao said.

“Every act of service, no matter how small, contributes to the larger mission of safeguarding the peace, security, and welfare of the Filipino people,” he added.
