Tarlac province placed under state of calamity

The provincial government of Tarlac has declared a state of calamity following widespread flooding that displaced thousands of residents, damaged major roads, and caused the collapse of portions of two bridges— the Aquino and a portion of the Agana bridge.

Under Resolution No. 416-2026, Governor Christian Yap said the flooding rendered several major thoroughfares in the province “impassable,” damaged agricultural crops and properties, and severely affected communities.

The resolution said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) recommended the declaration, citing the need for “immediate, coordinated, and sustained” relief, response, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts across the province.

The flooding also caused significant damage to infrastructure.

On Friday evening, a portion of the Ninoy Aquino Bridge in Barangay San Isidro, Tarlac City collapsed. The following night, the middle section of the Agana Bridge in the city also gave way, sending an SUV into the river.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage as the provincial government carries out disaster response and recovery operations.
