400 areas still flooded — OCD

The Office of Civil Defense on Sunday reported that more than 400 areas in the country’s four regions were flooded by rains from the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat.

“As of this morning, 429 areas are still flooded in four regions: Region 1, NCR, Region 3, and Calabarzon,” OCD deputy administrator for Operations Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said in a DZBB interview.

The flooding affected the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and the National Capital Region (NCR), damaging 3,158 houses. At the same time, nearly 100 road sections and 13 bridges remained impassable as of Sunday morning.

“We are clearing these areas. Our biggest problem is the bridge in Tarlac, as two bridges there have been affected. They were completely cut off, and alternative routes need to be used,” Alejandro said.

He added that when the weather improved for two days last week, the Department of Public Works and Highways and local government units immediately began clearing operations.

“When the monsoon resurged, we received new reports. Yesterday, there was a landslide in Subic, Zambales; even along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), there was a landslide on the road,” the OCD official pointed out.
