BoC destroys P1.45-M abandoned cargo

Bureau of Customs (BoC) officials at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) destroyed 340 air waybills containing more than 35.6 tons of abandoned and forfeited goods valued at P1.45 million.

The shipments, which arrived from various countries, included vape products, broken equipment, food items, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and general merchandise.

The goods were condemned for violations of Republic Act 11900, known as the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act, and Republic Act 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

District collector Maria Yasmin Obillos-Mapa said the condemnation demonstrates the port’s commitment to disposing of abandoned and forfeited items strictly under established legal procedures.
