Ali Hazelwood’s viral romance gets movie moment

After becoming one of BookTok’s biggest romance sensations, Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel The Love Hypothesis is finally making the leap from page to screen.

Premiering globally on Prime Video on 23 September, the film stars Lili Reinhart as Olive, a brilliant Ph.D. student whose spur-of-the-moment kiss with intimidating professor Adam Carlsen — played by Tom Bateman — sparks a fake dating arrangement that gradually turns into something more.

The adaptation brings to life one of contemporary romance’s most talked-about tropes: fake dating. As Olive and Adam navigate their carefully negotiated relationship, the line between pretense and genuine feelings begins to blur, forcing Olive to reconsider her beliefs about love.
