Disney adapts Korean novel ‘The Dallergut Dream Department Store’
Hollywood continues to expand its interest in Korean storytelling, with Disney set to develop a live-action adaptation of the bestselling fantasy novel The Dallergut Dream Department Store by Korean author Lee Mi-ye.
According to entertainment outlet Deadline, the project has tapped Patrick Ness, the acclaimed writer behind A Monster Calls and the Chaos Walking trilogy, to pen the screenplay.
The adaptation reflects a growing trend among major Hollywood studios to look beyond K-dramas and blockbuster films, instead securing rights to original Korean literary works and cult favorites as the foundation for new film projects.
Originally published in South Korea, The Dallergut Dream Department Store is a fantasy novel centered on a mysterious store where customers can purchase dreams. The book became a publishing sensation and has since been translated into multiple languages, earning readers worldwide for its imaginative storytelling and heartfelt themes.
