Bad weather affects 7.4 million -NDRRMC

Around 7.4 million Filipinos, or 2.1 million families, have been affected by torrential rains brought by bad weather over the past couple of weeks, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Saturday.

An NDRRMC report noted that as of 6 a.m., affected populations were recorded across Regions I, II, III, V, VI, IX, CALABARZON, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, and MIMAROPA.

The NDRRMC added that the total number of casualties remains at 29 deaths, 19 injuries, and three missing persons. Of the recorded fatalities, 15 were reported in Benguet; four each in Rizal and Batangas; two in Caloocan; and one each in La Union, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Negros Occidental.

There are currently 11,900 families (or 40,600 individuals) staying in evacuation centers. Additionally, approximately 2,300 homes sustained damage—2,057 partially and 269 totally destroyed.

The NDRRMC placed infrastructure damage at roughly P4.7 billion, while agricultural losses stand at P1.7 billion. The agency noted that P1.1 billion worth of aid has been provided to affected communities so far.
