‘Yorme’ rolls out third salary hike tranche

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced Monday morning that the third tranche of salary increases for all permanent city government employees will take effect on 1 September.

Speaking at the weekly flag-raising ceremony at Manila City Hall, Domagoso said the adjustment will provide at least a 4 percent salary boost for workers, increasing the city’s financial obligations by nearly P100 million.

“We talked last week with Paul and your department heads and bureau heads,” Domagoso said. “I want to inform all our employees that we are going to implement on time the third tranche, effective 1 September.”

The mayor acknowledged the city’s tight financial standing but expressed confidence in disciplined fiscal management.

“You might wonder, we practically have almost nothing, hand-to-mouth existence, but as I have said, God will always provide,” he said. “Through prudent, proper and effective spending, we are slowly meeting the needs and programs of the city.”

Domagoso directed city officials and employees to immediately process the necessary paperwork for the September rollout and announced that the budget adjustment will be submitted to the City Council for appropriation.

The salary adjustment covers 9,364 permanent employees.

Highlighting the workforce’s role in public service, Domagoso urged employees to maintain their health and reminded them to visit city clinics or health centers for prophylactic medication such as Doxycycline as a precaution against leptospirosis amid the ongoing rainy season.
