Python rescued from Mandaluyong homes

A python was rescued from a tight space between homes in Mandaluyong City on Saturday after residents spotted it crawling into a wall in a densely built residential area, local officials said.

The snake was first seen at about 7 a.m. in Barangay Hulo, where it disappeared into a narrow opening between houses.

Barangay responders spent nearly four hours trying to reach the animal. The rescue team eventually had to tear into part of the structure to free the snake, which was brought out shortly before noon, barangay councilor Jayar Antiojo said.

Antiojo said the python likely came from a nearby river in search of food before making its way into the residential neighborhood.

The councilor said the barangay would coordinate with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on the snake’s turnover, with the Manila Zoo being considered as a possible destination.

Antiojo urged residents to alert barangay authorities when flooding forces wildlife out of waterways and into populated areas.
