BJMP honors AboitizPower for aquaponics livelihood program

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 3 has recognized AboitizPower for supporting persons deprived of liberty in Mariveles, Bataan, through an aquaponics livelihood initiative aimed at boosting food security and providing income inside the facility.

AboitizPower, through its private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center and GNPower Dinginin, received a special award during the BJMP Region 3’s 35th anniversary celebration in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The companies were honored for supporting the rehabilitation and livelihood of inmates through Project HOPE, an initiative combining fish production and vegetable cultivation in an integrated aquaponics system.

Beyond supplying food, the project offers inmates an opportunity to learn practical skills to assist in their reintegration into society upon release.

Representatives from AboitizPower joined Jail senior inspector Don Phil Mari Frayna and other stakeholders at the anniversary event, which highlighted public-private partnerships supporting inmate rehabilitation.

Project HOPE aims to foster self-reliance and restore dignity to inmates while serving as a model for sustainable community development in correctional settings.
