Phl performers shine at global talent tilt

The Philippine delegation to the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) returned home with an impressive 334 medals and special awards, marking one of the country’s strongest performances in the international competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Following their successful campaign, members of WCOPA Team Philippines paid a courtesy visit to former Senator Cynthia Villar on 8 August to personally thank her for her long-standing support, which they said has helped prepare Filipino performers for the global stage.

The delegation, led by National Director Gerry Mercado and Creative Director Annie Tajanlangit Mercado, acknowledged Villar’s contribution, particularly for allowing the Villar School of Performing Arts in Las Piñas to serve as a venue for the team’s training and rehearsals before departing for the competition.

Among Team Philippines’ achievements were the Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World title, three Performer of the World Star trophies, 10 finalist gold medals, 60 semifinalist medals, 86 gold, 79 silver and 58 bronze medals. The contingent also earned 31 Overall Division Champion plaques, four scholarships from the New York Film Academy, one scholarship from Millennium Dance Complex, and finished as first runner-up in the Best Production Group Performance category.

Villar said supporting young Filipino artists remains part of her commitment to help them develop their talents and represent the country with pride in international competitions.
