P60-B Cebu infra projects probe eyed

The Office of the Ombudsman is now investigating at least P60 billion worth of flood control projects in Cebu.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, in his first visit to Cebu, disclosed that in six years, flood control projects in Cebu have cost P60 billion.

“Most of the projects went to the seventh district and 25 percent went to one contractor, Quirante,” Remulla said in a press conference with Cebu media.

He cited that transparency must be upheld in government as the country moves forward, stressing that impunity has to stop.

He hinted that within three years, there will be a resolution to this flood control mess.

Remulla’s surprise visits

After 10 months in office, Remulla will be visiting offices in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

The seventh district of Cebu Province includes the municipalities of Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Alegria, Moalboal, Badian and Ginatilan.

Remulla inspected the flood-prone areas in Liloan, especially Cotcot River, Mandaue, Cebu, and Talisay.

He assured that he would build up cases on those involved in the anomalies, but he refused to set a timeline for the filing of cases.

“We have to build up strong cases,” he insisted.
