Fugitive Japanese behind bars

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested a 38-year-old Japanese fugitive at the agency’s headquarters in Intramuros, Manila, officials said.

The suspect, identified as Koizumi Haruki, was apprehended by members of the bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit in coordination with Japanese authorities.

The arrest occurred after Tourist Visa Section chief Raymond Remigio intercepted Koizumi while the suspect was attempting to apply for a visa extension at the office.

Following the alert, search unit operatives led by chief Rendel Ryan Sy verified Koizumi’s records and took him into custody.

Japanese authorities previously notified Philippine officials that Koizumi is wanted on an active arrest warrant in Japan for violating the Law on the Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds.

Bureau records showed he had already been blacklisted as an undesirable foreign national.

Koizumi was transferred to the bureau’s detention facility, where he remains held pending deportation proceedings.
