Separate road mishaps leave 5 injured, 1 critical

Five people were injured, including a woman left in critical condition, following two separate traffic collisions in San Quintin and San Manuel, according to authorities.

The first crash occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. along the provincial road in Barangay Alac, San Quintin.

According to an initial police investigation, a 55-year-old tricycle driver from Tayug was traveling eastbound when he slowed down to make a left turn toward the San Quintin Bus Terminal.

His vehicle was hit from behind by a motorcycle operated by a 57-year-old helper from San Quintin.

Both drivers suffered injuries and were taken to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug, where they were listed in stable condition.

Both vehicles sustained damage, though repair costs have not yet been determined. They were taken to the San Quintin Municipal Police Station for further processing.

Later that night, at about 11:10 p.m., a second collision occurred along the San Manuel–San Nicolas Road in Barangay San Bonifacio, San Manuel.

Police said a 25-year-old security guard driving a Suzuki Smash motorcycle was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he collided with an oncoming Yamaha NMAX motorcycle.

The second motorcycle was driven by a 20-year-old student, who was carrying a 42-year-old woman as a passenger.

The impact caused both motorcycles to crash.

The male driver suffered abrasions and a laceration to the back of his head. He received initial treatment at the San Manuel Rural Health Unit before being transferred to Sacred Heart Hospital.

The female driver suffered abrasions on her right arm and possible fractures to her right foot and right shoulder. Her passenger sustained multiple abrasions, a fractured right foot, and a head laceration.

Both women were transferred to the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan City. Police said the passenger was in critical condition and in a coma upon arrival. Both drivers were conscious.

Also, both motorcycles sustained damage, with repair costs under assessment. The vehicles were impounded at the San Manuel Municipal Police Station as the investigation continues.
