Angat Dam continues to recover, 0.49-meter increase in water level on Thursday

A 0.49-meter increase in the reservoir water level (RWL) of Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan was recorded on Thursday, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) saying the rise indicates the reservoir is recovering.

“This shows that there is recovery in Angat Dam,” PAGASA weather specialist John Manalo said during an 11:00 a.m. weather briefing.

As of 8:00 a.m. Thursday (6 August), the water level at Angat Dam reached 157.49 meters, up from 157.00 meters on Wednesday (5 August).

PAGASA observed the gradual recovery in Angat Dam for three consecutive days, recording successive increases in the reservoir of 1.21 meters on Tuesday (4 August), 0.39 meters on Wednesday, and 0.49 meters on Thursday. 

Despite the increase, Angat Dam's water level remained 52.51 meters short of its normal high water level of 210 meters. 

While Angat Dam is far from its NHWL, other dams, however, recorded close to their respective normal high water level. 

This includes the Ipo Dam in Bulacan which recorded a water level of 100.06 meters, just 1.04 meters below its NHWL of 101.10 meters.

La Mesa Dam in Quezon City also stood near its NHWL, with the latest water level of 79.44 meters, or 0.71 meters below its normal high water level of 80.15 meters.

The three dams formed the Angat–Ipo–La Mesa water system, which serves as the primary source of raw water for Metro Manila's domestic water supply.
