Injured Pinoy seafarers in drone attack repatriated
The manning agency arranged the repatriation, hospitalization, and ongoing care for the injured workers.
Two Filipino seafarers who were injured when a drone struck their Panama-flagged tanker in the Black Sea returned home Monday, government officials said.
The seafarers aboard the M/T Gas Lisbon arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay via Qatar Airways flight QR932.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Angela Galias, along with representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), welcomed the crew members upon their arrival.
DMW and OWWA provided airport and financial assistance to both seafarers.
Representatives from their licensed manning agency, Alpha Pearl of the Orient Maritime Inc., also met the crew members at the airport.
The manning agency arranged the repatriation, hospitalization, and ongoing care for the injured workers.
The DMW has directed the agency to ensure both seafarers undergo physical and psychological examinations, as well as debriefing sessions.
Following the incident, the DMW reminded licensed manning agencies and accredited principals to strictly observe safety precautions and adhere to established protocols for ships carrying Filipino crew through the Black Sea.
The agency said it will continue coordinating with the manning agency to monitor the seafarers’ medical conditions and ensure they receive proper care.
