A Japanese city mayor attracted media attention for being pregnant.

Shoko Kawata, chief executive of Yawata, a city with a population of around 69,000, is the first woman mayor in Japan to become pregnant while in office.

The 33-year-old’s recent announcement that she was taking maternity leave also made headlines because she is the first mayor to do so, Reuters reported. Kawata is due to give birth in September.

Meanwhile, a British woman got an early hint that she was pregnant before test results confirmed she was expecting.

Ravika, 34, from the West Midlands, noticed that the health score on her fitness tracker had dropped after the wearable device detected an elevated heart rate and body temperature, along with low heart rate variability, indicating stress, the BBC reported.

She, however, was feeling well. She checked an online community of fitness tracker users and learned that certain data collected by wearable devices could be signs of pregnancy. A week later, Ravika tested positive.

Ravika also began reading Reddit posts by women who said notifications from their Oura rings had predicted their miscarriages. Sadly, Ravika later miscarried, but she hopes to try to conceive again soon, BBC reported.
