Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Rueda-Acosta has alerted anti-cybercrime authorities and social media platforms after a fake video featuring her voice and image went viral, attempting to dupe the public into an investment scam.
Acosta expressed outrage over the altered video, which falsely depicts her urging viewers to invest money for quick profits.
She has formally reported the incident to the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group to identify those behind the fraudulent account and hold them accountable.
“This is totally disgusting,” Acosta said, urging the public to remain vigilant and refrain from engaging with the video.
Acosta noted that scammers targeted her identity because of her visibility and close ties with millions of indigent and underprivileged Filipinos who rely on the agency for free legal assistance.
