CCP names Carlos Quijon Jr. chief curator

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has appointed art historian, critic and curator Carlos Quijon Jr. as chief curator of the CCP Contemporary Art Museum ahead of the reopening of its Main Building in the first quarter of 2027.

CCP President Kaye C. Tinga said Quijon will help lead the institution's exhibition program as the center prepares to welcome the public after conservation and rehabilitation work that began in 2021.

Global experience

Quijon previously served as the inaugural C-MAP Fellow for Southeast and East Asia at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He also curated the Philippine Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, which featured the work of artist Mark Salvatus.

His curatorial work also includes exhibitions in São Paulo, New York, Seoul, Busan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

Museum collection

The CCP houses one of the country's largest contemporary art collections, with more than 2,000 works in its CCP 21AM Visual Arts Collection. The institution said Quijon will oversee how the collection will be presented when the Main Building reopens in the first quarter of 2027.
