DPWH logs swift flood recession across metro hotspots

Floodwaters in several flood-prone areas across Metro Manila subsided quickly following heavy rains, demonstrating the impact of ongoing flood mitigation efforts, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said floodwaters receded rapidly due to advance preparations made ahead of the heavy rainfall.

Dizon ordered the immediate deployment of DPWH maintenance teams to conduct declogging operations and clear obstructive materials from drainage systems, allowing rainwater to move quickly into Metro Manila waterways.

According to Dizon, the efforts align with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to strengthen the administration’s flood control program by ensuring open water channels and keeping large machinery at pumping stations operational.

Monitoring data showed noticeable improvements in several key locations where floodwaters receded within hours.

In Malabon City, waters along Governor Pascual Avenue rose at 8:21 p.m. and subsided by 10:55 p.m. while in Quezon City, flooding on G. Araneta Avenue lasted from 9:34 p.m. to 10:02 p.m.

Meantime, waters on Scout Tobias Street in Diliman rose at 9:34 p.m. and cleared by 9:51 p.m.

Over at Manila, floodwaters at the intersection of España Boulevard and Antipolo Street rose at 9:14 p.m. and subsided by 10:55 p.m., while the intersection of España Boulevard and Dela Fuente Street flooded at 9:48 p.m. and cleared by 10:55 p.m. R. Magsaysay Boulevard saw floodwaters from 9:08 p.m.
