Over 1,000 WV schools suspend classes due to Habagat

ILOILO CITY — A total of 1,380 schools across Western Visayas suspended face-to-face classes on Friday, July 24, due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Kiyapo.

Data from the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 showed that the suspension affected 425 schools in the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Antique, 116 in Guimaras, 774 in Iloilo Province, and 65 in Iloilo City.

Meanwhile, no suspension of in-person classes was reported in the Schools Division Offices of Aklan, Capiz, Passi City, and Roxas City.

With classroom instruction suspended, affected schools shifted to the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) to ensure the continuity of learning while prioritizing the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel amid the adverse weather conditions.
