Police arrest man in Laoag family stabbing

A man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife and stepson during a domestic dispute at an apartment in Barangay 13, Laoag City, early Wednesday, 22 July.

Police said personnel of the Laoag City Police Station responded to the incident at around 1:10 a.m. at Jacobs Apartment following reports of a stabbing.

The victims were identified only by their initials as RDT, a married woman of legal age, and her son, ODT, who is also of legal age. Both are residents of Barangay 13, Laoag City. The suspect, identified by the initials RET, is a married man of legal age and a resident of Barangay 12.

Initial police investigation showed that at around 12:45 a.m., the suspect allegedly arrived at the apartment and confronted his wife inside her room. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly became enraged and physically assaulted the woman.

The victim's son reportedly intervened to pacify the suspect. However, police said the suspect allegedly drew a black folding knife and stabbed the son in the right calf before turning the weapon on his wife, who sustained a stab wound to her right thigh.

Responding police officers immediately arrested the suspect upon arrival at the scene.

The two victims were rushed to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City, where they received medical treatment.

Police said the initial investigation pointed to family conflict and jealousy as the possible motives behind the incident.

Authorities are preparing the necessary documents for the filing of the appropriate charges against the suspect.
