PAL locks in GE engines for Dreamliner expansion

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has locked in GE Aerospace to power its next-generation Boeing 787-10 fleet, supporting the flag carrier’s long-term expansion and modernization plans.

The Tan-led firm said on Tuesday that the agreement covers GE Aerospace’s GEnx-1B engines for PAL’s 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with purchase rights for five additional aircraft. The airline expects deliveries between 2031 and 2034.

The deal was signed during the Farnborough International Airshow by Lucio C. Tan III, president and chief operating officer of PAL Holdings Inc., Richard Nuttall, president of Philippine Airlines, and senior executives from GE Aerospace.

The GEnx-1B engine is designed to improve fuel efficiency, reliability and durability while reducing emissions, supporting lower operating costs and more sustainable long-haul operations.

Important PAL partner

“We are confident that the GEnx engines will provide the reliability, efficiency, and performance needed to support our operations and deliver an even better travel experience for our customers.”

GE Aerospace said the agreement extends its long-standing partnership with the Philippine flag carrier.
