Gilas men drop in FIBA ranking

The Philippines dropped three notches in the latest ranking released by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

From No 36, Gilas Pilipinas men’s team dropped to No. 39 following its back to back losses in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers early this month.

Without slotmen like Kai Sotto and Quentin Millora-Brown and with Justin Brownlee limping with an injury, the Filipinos suffered a 106-102 loss to New Zealand on 3 July and a 49-92 setback to Australia on 6 July.

The losses were the fourth straight for the Philippines ahead of the second round of competition on 28 August against Jordan and on 30 August against Iran.

With that, the Philippines dropped to No. 39 overall and seventh in the Asian Zone behind No. 7 Australia, No. 22 Japan, No. 25 New Zealand, No. 26 Iran, No. 30 China, and No. 31 Lebanon.

Powerhouse United States remains on top followed by Germany, Serbia, France and Canada.
