Counsel challenges flood scandal claims

Former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez is prepared to face any complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman, with his legal counsel maintaining there is no evidence linking the lawmaker to alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

Romualdez’ counsel Ade Fajardo said the defense remains puzzled by Romualdez’s continued inclusion in the controversy despite what he described as the lack of proof.

“Until now, we are wondering why the investigation is taking that direction when, from our perspective, there is absolutely no proof or evidence linking the former Speaker to the alleged flood-control anomalies,” Fajardo said.
