QCPD unveils school active shooter safety drills

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the local government are preparing to conduct simulation drills in schools to train students how to respond to violent threats, including active shooter scenarios, officials said Thursday.

QCPD director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said a dry run for the emergency exercises is tentatively scheduled for Friday. The drills will cover four specific threat scenarios: active shooting incidents, stabbings, bomb threats and riots.

The initiative aligns with the Interior Department’s broader Safer Cities framework led by Secretary Jonvic Remulla, which deploys one police officer and one village watchman to guard each campus from the start to the end of the school day.

“We have created audio-visual presentations for these four scenarios so students know exactly what to do, similar to how they respond during earthquake drills,” said Silvio.
